Born in the milltown of Maynard, Massachusetts, Edith S. Marks departed for Boston immediately upon graduation from high school for a position with a wool merchant who periodically went on drinking binges, leaving her in charge of the business.  She moved on to work for a manufacturer of hand made shoes, a position that also called upon her newly honed administrative strengths when her boss was imprisoned after he kidnapped his illegitimate daughter, resulting in his incarceration at Danbury Prison where Ms. Marks met with him for business consultations.  Shortly, thereafter, she took off for Washington, DC, where she worked for an organization from India, and thence onto New York City for a stint with "Commentary" magazine.

In the next few years, she had a succession of jobs including a position at an African Art Gallery, ghost writing a book on advertising and marketing to youth, and managing a do-it-yourself show. She then teamed up with an employment agency where she co-authored two career books published by Bobbs-Merrill, College to Career and Kitchen to Career

While at the agency Ms. Marks attended Brooklyn College and earned a Masters Degree in Psychology at Teachers College, Columbia University. Upon completing her degrees Ms. Marks entered the New York City Board of Education and rose from a teacher of emotionally disturbed children to a supervisor of teacher training for children with special needs.  During this period she co-authored, Job Hunting for the Handicapped, published by Barron's Educational Series.

Glaucoma entered the picture during her tenure as a teacher and after joining a Glaucoma support group and writing a newsletter for that organization.  Ms. Marks, now coping with the disease and realizing the need for a book, wrote the acclaimed, Coping With Glaucoma, which remains popular.

She has continued her volunteer activities both coordinating meetings of New York Glaucoma Support and Education Group and editing the organization’s newsletter.  She also volunteers for and sits on the Board of Directors of the West Side Community Garden, one of the first permanent gardens in New York City and which is included in the book, The Pocket Guide to Great American Places, right along with the Golden Gate Bridge. In recognition for her volunteer efforts, Edith S. Marks was awarded a Certificate in Volunteerism from the Manhattan Borough President.

Environmentalism, gourmet cooking, long walks in Central Park and urban gardening constitute some of Ms. Marks' passions and pleasures.  She currently lives in New York City with her author husband, Jason Marks.
